Friday, November 4, 2022

9:00 AM – 3:30 PM EST

Want to get an early start to Energy Week 2022?

Join this day trip to North Carolina State University to visit the PULSTAR Nuclear Reactor, one of the nation's most cutting edge research facilities and teaching laboratories, and Advanced Energy, a leading nonprofit energy consulting firm focused on renewables and electric transportation.

The site visit will leave from the Duke Chapel at 9:00 am and will include a tour of the PULSTAR facility and a lunch-and-learn at AE.  Transportation is provided by charter bus and lunch will be free and generously catered by AE. You'll be back on campus by 3:30 pm. There's no better way to prepare for Energy Week 2022!

Visit #2: Duke Smart Home
Tuesday, November 8, 2022

6:00 - 7:00 PM EST

Want to experience life at Duke's very own Smart Home?

Join us for a tour! The Duke Smart Home was dreamed up by students in 2003 and opened to residents in 2008. The home achieved a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) platinum rating by incorporating a green roof, collecting rainwater for irrigation, using solar panels, and optimizing daylight use. The building features residential living spaces, common areas, clean laboratories, a “dirty” lab, a media room and a basement. In addition to hosting 10 student residents each year, the Smart Home is "home" to a student club, independent study projects, research studies, design competition and more.

The tour will last 40-60 minutes and will take place at 1402 Faber Street, Durham, NC, a 15 minute walk from both East Campus and the Duke Gardens.
